Literal
(a) I, Noelle Barreras, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) I've been hand-drawing designs for shirts that I thought would be a good idea since last summer but I didn't start paying attention to how much time I spent until the end of December. The pictures posted span from the summer to this past week. I've drawn up nearly 25 designs, some are more complete than others because I lack the skill to completely draw some out.
Interpretive
Even though I hadn't seriously thought of starting a clothing line until a few months ago, I've always wanted to. I'd go to concerts and see all of the cool designs that bands have on their shirts and it made me want to do something with clothes. A lot of band members branch out and start their own line of clothes which inspired me so much because if they could multitask a band and a business, why couldn't I have at least one? I spent so much time trying to carefully draw out the designs that were in my head. I messed up a lot. At first, I drew really hard and dark where you could see the mistakes no matter how hard I erased. Eventually, though, I started drawing with a lighter pencil so I could erase easily and the drawing would look more clean. A lot of my ideas are weakly drawn in my sketchbook, they're just outlines and sketches of what I can barely grasp to put on paper. At first, a lot of the designs started out small. They'd be on the corner of a napkin or the edge of a paper that's in front of me. After time, though, I'd take the time to draw them out on a larger scale and with color if I thought that's what it needed. I've spent a lot of late nights and early mornings working on the designs. Usually, I'd start falling asleep and I'd think of a really good idea and if I liked it enough, it'd keep me up for hours or it'd keep me busy until I could fall asleep.
Applied
One of the answers to my essential question is having the right designs. This means having designs that not only I like, but that my buyers will like. It's important to know who you're selling to and if you can give them what they want. I hope to sell clothes with designs that people my age, give or take, will really want to wear. Also, I want something that I'd actually wear instead of just what everyone else likes. I also spent time trying to diversify my designs from text to objects to people.

ReplyDeletePros: I think it’s fantastic that you are inspired to start a clothing line that showcases your creative designs. I like your “Care Less” logo because my first impulse was to fret about the letters ‘a’ and ‘e’ not having a cross bar. Perfect!
Cons: You need to have better evidence of logged hours; such as verification by a second party. There is a lot of psychology that goes into fashion merchandising. I am not sure which of your research sources you are drawing your conclusions for designs from. Is there a method to the madness? An explanation with supporting research for each design would have rounded out your blog post. Where are the 25 designs you made? I only see three of them...
